My straight blond hair went to curly and red with some grey/white strands during menopause. Apparently I was carrying a ginger gene that has more mojo than the genes that formerly made me look blonde

Like many of the PPs, I’m the opposite (post-menopausal and my hair is a coarse frizzy mess) but hair changes any which way are normal.

Huh. Mine is going from straight to wavy, but not just my grays, pretty my whole head of hair… except, unfortunately the pieces around my face, which are still straight.

45 and mine is 90% white (I dye it) and it went from curly/wavy to barely wavy mostly straight in the past year!

I'm 52. I'm a ginger with a few odd greys. It is also going from curly to slight bends to straight.

Most people I know have the opposite experience and experience waves and curls for the first time around this age as they gain in grey. I've been blaming peri menopause as my hair is definitely dry and it's never been that either.

Mine went pretty curly with a whole lot of silver(47). It went stick straight from slightly wavy with both of my pregnancies.
I’m very happy with this aspect of perimenopause, the rest of it not so much.

My stick straight hair is now 2b wavy; changed during peri menopause. Still trying to figure out how to care for and style it.

My straight hair has gone curly. Not many grays yet at 46.

My frizzy, coarse hair has straightened out a lot since having kids in my 30s. It’s not a total 180, but not nearly as unmanageable as it used to be. I’ve also been blow drying and ironing it for decades, so not sure if that has an impact. I don’t use keratin.

I know that the texture of your hair can change in perimenopause as well as when you go gray. I am in my mid 40s and have had curly, coarse, frizzy hair my whole life (been getting keratin treatments for years to manage).

My hair is like 60% gray at this point and oddly the gray hair seems to have grown in straight vs curly. The spots in my hair that are not gray are still curly/frizzy, but the places that have been gray for longer are pretty much stick straight now (they air dry straight which has never happened to me before).

Is it common for gray hair to lose its curly texture? Or maybe it’s hormones at play?

Curious if anyone else has experienced this. Now I am in a weird phase where I can’t wear my hair curly since more than half is straight, yet I still have some areas with curls. Not a great look overall.
