If you are in the county, not if you move to another county, DC or Virginia.

Honestly, as a teacher i think it’s no big deal but i also wouldn’t tell anyone.

That's not true. I'd report anyone I knew who wasn't a resident to ensure they pay.

Your reporting doesn’t ensure pay. Depending on the time of year, They may be investigated and a lot of work isn’t put into it because they can appeal. It’s a lengthy process.
If the school year is over by the time they get around to it, they are looked into for subsequent years… but by then the OP would have moved.

We have so many kids at our school who are committing residency fraud and nobody ever does a thing about it. Don’t even worry about it.

If you move out of county you have to be withdrawn from MCPS- law. If you don't tell anyone they will not know and you can continue in the school for the last couple months. If you are moving within the county. and tell MCPS you can get a COSA for the last couple months but it's up to the Principal to sign it. If the principal doesn't not approve you can still fight it and the board will most likely approve. People move and don't tell all the time.

Moving within the county is different than moving out of state.

this is the kind of thing that the principal has discretion with. If you just want to finish out the school year, this is nbd. As others have said, I would not bother telling the school. More hassle than it is worth.

You don't need to ask and you don't need to worry. Just don't say anything and make sure you have your mail forwarded

How many months are you talking? If it's just a couple, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep them in their old school.

How overcrowded is your school?

We're moving due to a rental issue and would like to be closer to work but we are worried about pulling our children before the end of the school year. Can you get permission to finish out the last few months in MCPS if you have moved out and pay tuition to the district?
