NP. I have this one. I have a proper full rotator Shark, but I use this 95% of the time.

NP here. Which cordless Shark model did you go with? There seem to be so many different Shark models that it gets overwhelming when shopping online.

The laser beam is surprisingly awesome! I used to vacuum weekly, at most. I now do it daily, largely because of what the laser beam showed me. It’s like luminol for dust and dirt! I use the Dyson v12. Probably the most useful vacuum I’ve ever had because it’s easy to use and, yes, it has a freaking laser beam! When I’m feeling brave, I turn off the lights to get the full effect.

They make a battery adapter for the Dyson if you have any other power tools. Just FYI.

I have a dyson stick that is 6 years old. It doesn't get heavy use though. The first battery died within months, and Dyson replaced it for free. When I spoke with customer service, they said not to plug it into the charger when the machine/battery is still hot from use. So now I wait till it cools down before plugging it back in, which is somewhat annoying. But since doing that, I've only had to replace the battery once, possibly twice.

I now have the Gen5 Outsize which is their latest model. You no longer need to hold the trigger down to keep the machine on and the fluffy roller head has a laser beam on it. It definitely shows a lot of dust and hair but honestly, I could do without that feature. I don't need to know how gross my house gets in between vacuumings. I do like the larger bin and the wider floor head though.

I’m pretty devoted to Dyson but the laser beam is so stupid it has me questioning everything.

I thought the same thing but it really does show you even the slightest bit of dust on hardwood floors. Areas I normally don't take the time to fully get behind actually get vacuumed now that I can see the filth. When I'm in a rush I just use the regular floor head so I don't get distracted by the hidden dust and dog hair.

Wirecutter still says Dyson. Anecdotally it seems like some people find they just chews up batteries and others (like me) almost never have a battery problem. I have three now and probably have had six or more over time and I’ve only had a battery die once. I don’t know if it’s something about how we use or charge them or just chance.

We use our V8 daily, but have only replaced the battery once in maybe 4-5 years. Our V8 is still working fine.

Is yours just a lemon or are many people finding that (even with a replacement battery) their Dyson stick is totally dead?

We get non-Dyson-brand replacement batteries from Amazon for our Dyson V8. They fit perfectly and work very well. Cost is maybe $35 to $60 for one battery. I learned this from a previous DCUM thread about Dyson battery replacement.

My cherished Dyson V8 has finally bit the dust after two battery replacements. I have loved the convenience of a cordless stick vac with young kids and pets but haven't loved needing to replace the batteries on a $400 machine twice in a four year period. For those Dyson lovers out there, has the quality of the batteries increased in the newer models?

I see Miele also now has a cordless stick vac and the YouTube sales people (obviously) say it's much better than the Dyson but I don't know of any actual friends/family who own the cordless Miele. I own a corded Miele Marin canister and it's a great machine but I think they're relatively new to the cordless market.

What's your pick for the best cordless stick right now?
