This was a few years ago, but my older kid “passed up” AAP at LJ in favor of Thoreau and I have no regrets. DC did well in HS and is excelling in college. I only know one of DCs classmates who chose LJ over TMS, and the goal was to get into TJ (which did happen, but this kid would have been competitive from any MS, IMO). College outcomes were similar for all of DCs peer group, regardless of their MS/HS path.

Thanks. It is funny you mentioned TJ because my older one recently noted that he passed on even applying to TJ (and he would have been a sold candidate) as a reason to let younger one go to TMS. It isn't all about academics. But both of my kids have pretty lofty college goals so I just want them to put themselves in the best position possible to achieve those goals.

I have searched and mostly people are talking about their experience at one school. My family already has experience at one school and we have a second kid wanting to choose the other school. I have not found people who said they had a kid at each though I know such people must exist.

There was a discussion about this a year ago, maybe more. I don't remember the specifics, but the consensus was that LJ was stronger. Curiously, when I went to Thoreau, most considered LJ a bad school. Just felt it was curious how things had changed in a few decades.

Not sure you'll get many responses fitting your criteria. This could be hearsay, but I vaguely recall threads mentioning that Thoreau AAP program is not strong. As for actual evidence, I can confirm that Thoreau doesn't even have a Mathcounts team, while Luther Jackson sends the maximum 12 kids to mathcounts, so you can interpret that as you wish.
Ultimately the choice depends on many other factors, not just academics. Even for academics it depends on what type of school environment as well as what types of subjects your child is interested in.
