Ugh, I hate people who wear hats (except baseball, sun and ski, when appropriate), it’s so try-hard and affected.

I kinda like those hats. I saw my ex walking around in one recently. It would have looked good if he hadn’t paired it with a tweed blazer and wool trousers. That was just over the top.

I love that hat! I say he goes for it.

True. My short, overweight uncle wears one in the winter and it definitely corrects proportions and makes him look more distinguished!

Flat caps and fedoras are making a comeback. He'll be on the leading edge of a fashion trend.

Mt dh looks better in a flat cap than most other hats, so it's no big deal. I associate them more with Great Britain than old guys.

My DH has a hat like this and it looks amazing on him. He doesn't wear it often because of people like OP who think all men should wear, I dunno, Patagonia vests and khakis and maybe a logoed baseball cap at all times. I have actual style so I think a well kept man in a proper hat is sexy, but American men's fashion is a travesty, so....

Let me ask you this, OP. If your husband wanted to sport cargo shorts and a pair of Adidas shower shoes, would it upset you this much? Because I see that look on lots of professional, middle aged men in the DC area and it is embarrassing.

So maybe a flat cap isn't that bad...

He’s definitely overweight. So just adds to the spectacle…

There is no reasoning with someone who thinks that hat is ok.

I don’t know. Middle aged men wearing baseball caps scream try hard

You need a new husband.

If he's not overweight, he can try. My husband wears a merino wool beanie, and it makes him look ridiculous, because it flattens all his hair and his head looks disproportionately small when he also wears a thick winter coat.

So maybe a flat cap isn't that bad...

So DH is turning 50, so I guess is actually on cusp of old but I can’t support embracing it THIS hard.

He wants to stop wearing baseball caps — he says it feels like a young man’s look, like he is dressing like a teenager trying to be cool.

So he has got a flat cap or Englishman’s cap. He says Beckham sports them, and I say he’s no Beckham.

Any suggestions on how to steer him into better head wear? He likes wearing hats for the shade and keeping rain off his glasses — he had a full head of (grey) hair so he doesn’t need to wear a hat as actual sun protection like when bald.
