And to add, technically it’s not been determined if it’s a “lifetime med” for weight loss. Neither Eli Lilly or Novo has released guidance for maintenance regarding weight loss. Maintenance dosing is still in clinical trials for both meds( I’m in one).

OP, it works by making you not hungry, so you don't eat. When you go off it, you will get hungry again.

I think it could eventually be made available in a continuous low dose for the non-obese, because it has some interesting side effects on mood, addiction, etc. But it probably won't ever make sense as a temporary measure.

A lot of people do it for that amount of weight. It is why the biggest users are very wealthy people in LA. I have heard mixed reviews on the side effects.

I mean sure, if you really care about those last 5 pounds then go ahead. It's kind of an intense medication though and can have really disruptive side effects. Totally worth it for me to lose 60+ pounds with literally 0 effort, but I'd literally never do it for 5 pounds just for the side effects alone, not even considering the risk.

There's also no way you'll get the actual pharmaceuticals covered by insurance, so you'll pay out of pocket. It's like $1200 a month per pen retail, but if you only want to lose 5 pounds a very low dose will probably be all you need. In that case (if you can find a provider to give you a prescription) one $1200 8-mg pen of Ozempic or similar (it has to be one where you can customize the dose--Ozempic has a mechanism to allow this, Wegovy does not, not sure about any of the other ones like Mounjaro etc) could have up to 32 weekly doses in it, so it wouldn't be that expensive.

Another option is the compounded "generic" from a med spa, but not sure whether that's being cracked down on or not, I never learned too much about it.

Personally I would just try to enjoy your body with 5 "extra" pounds but it could certainly be an option.

Seems dumb to be. If others do it, I don’t care, but I wouldn’t. 5 lbs just isn’t that important and can taken off easily if you miss a couple meals.

That seems really risky for 5-10 lbs. There are some major side effects for these drugs, I dont know if I'd risk it (or recommend to anyone else) for so little.

Using it for 5-10 lbs is crazy. the chances of gaining it back as soon as they go off is pretty high.

I know I will get flamed for this, but curious if people have used these drugs just to lose a few pounds - like just 5-10 lbs for cosmetic purposes rather than actually meeting overweight/obesity criteria. I have a couple of work acquaintances that are I never thought of as overweight who are supposedly doing this. I've tried diet and exercise and am pretty darn healthy in my habits but can't seem to get those last few pounds off. I'm sure being perimenopausal doesn't help. Anyway, just pondering over here.
