I think ours daughter went with her middle school classmates and her dad and I went without her.

Daughter is a freshman at Yorktown and it's been a great experience so far. She likes her classes for the most part, and sports and social life are going well. We decided against applying to TJ or going to Arlington tech. (Though the tour of Tech made ME want to go there.)

Last year they had a presentation you could download from their website the day.

OP here - yes, we are zoned for Yorktown. Thank you!

Parents and 8th graders. It's a chance to learn more about the school, any unique offerings it has (IB, Capstone, or the programs like HB and Arlington Tech). Usually they have at least 2 students there to also take part in the Q&A.

I'm assuming you're asking because Yorktown's is tonight. Most of the other schools had a virtual option, but for some reason Yorktown is only doing in person. We didn't go for our older child because we knew he was for sure going to our zoned HS. For our current 8th grader we are considering applying to one or more of the lottery programs so are also attending our zoned high school presentation.

Either, but my kids didn't really get anything from it. If your kids are deciding between different schools then it may be helpful, but if you know they are going to their neighborhood school I wouldn't bother. There will be several orientations for your student to go to closer to HS starting.

I'm a parent of an 8th grader and wondering if he should attend the HS information night too, or just parents? The HS site just says it's for "families."
