We’d attend at that time.

This is a silly post -- it is basically a given that you will get less, but still some, classmates come on Jan1 than if you threw the party like the next weekend. If you are fine with that then do it, if not, do it a different weekend and just have a fun cousin celebration on Jan 1.

We would come, but our family is from here so we don't have to travel. But I think it's nice to have the cousins there if they aren't typically able to come to your kids' birthday parties so I would prioritize that.

Yes, I think it’s a perfect activity for New Year’s Day. Provided it’s not at 9 AM when everybody has stayed up till midnight the night before then go for it!

We threw a last min family new year party last year and almost everyone came. Even when people travel, they are usually back since school started the next day. We also travelled but were back. I want to say we invited 20 families and 18 came. We were surprised how many people came. I guess most people don’t have daytime new years plans.

Our was not a birthday party though.

Not like anyone cares about the football. ALthough I don't think that starts until 5.

Just warn people well in advance, and get an early head-count. Then send a reminder, because some parents, after a week of family-time, might just forget.

Definitely! If we had gone out the night before, would appreciate letting our kid get energy out. You would lose people that go away, though.

We’d have no issues with that.

I would come. I know people who wouldn’t due to superstitions don’t like to be out on day 1

Just take them to a bounce house. Do the party a week later, when your 8 yr old's friends are in town.

Some special cousins are in in town from overseas and we’d love for them to be part of the typical fun bounce-type party with our kid. Due to travel, New Years Day is the only day it could work with the cousins still in town. It would be 2-4 pm and I think we could accommodate potty trained siblings as well. We are fine if not everyone can make it. For an 8 year old. We would serve pizza. Thoughts on whether you would/could come or not?
