+1
It was our ridiculous splurge during a home reno a few years ago (after having a countertop version). But I love it and use it multiple times every day.

What do you use pebble ice for? Doesn't it melt quickly, diluting a drink (whether alcoholic or not)? Seems like it would be great for water, and not so much for anything else.

I don't know any alcoholics who like pebble ice. If anything, they like the huge balls or cube of ice so that it doesn't water down their drinks.

My grandparents had one in their bar. We loved it. Ah, memories.

Pebble ice is a thing because there is now a massive factory in China making them in the millions and everybody will get one in the next 12 months.
It has all the staying power of an instant pot. (I'm a big fan of both but, yes, it's kind of a fad).

my fridge came with small ice cubes, and it’s nice that they fit in water bottles.

A friend's dad was based at Charleston and Honolulu. It got hot. They had one at both locations since the ice maker in the freezer couldn't keep up. This was back in the 80s.

I think it’s great, not ridiculous! People routinely buy cars that cost 10s of thousands more than similar cars and no one gives them a hard time. Ditto watches, handbags, earrings, etc etc.
Enjoy your pebble ice and ignore the haters.

It’s always been a thing. I like it for drinks, but it’s definitely a personal preference. People used to buy pebble ice from Sonic. The full sized Scotsman ice makers are expensive, but a few year’s back, someone developed a small, less expensive countertop unit, and it got wider publicity.

I saved up for two years so I could save for a really good pebble ice maker. Now I have it and it's amazing. But I'm one of those people who gets joy out of crunching ice. If I didn't regularly chew ice I'm not sure why I'd want one.
