Oh yep…I heard my 8th grade DD complain that all the boys are back to being obsessed with fortnight. It’s all they talk about. lol

I have a 12 yr old son and we just never bought a video game system. He plays at a friend’s house occasionally but doesn’t play at home and doesn’t ask about it

How did we survive before Fortnite?

I set boundaries so there are no surprises. If it’s time to go and he is with a friend, I’ll let him finish up the game in 10-15 min but that’s it. I get a lot of pushback and name calling but I stand firm and don’t engage. Later when he calms down, he apologizes for his behavior. I know it’s an addiction but it’s his only outlet for friends as he changed schools in the middle of the year and has no school friends. I also put him in sports to keep him busy. For us, he is only allowed to play on weekends. He has really bad grades right now so if he wants it during the week, he has to show us he can pull up his grades and keep them up.

To be fair, it is very social to play with their friends. Set limits that you think are appropriate ahead of time and encourage them to coordinate with their friends so they are on at the same time.

The OG map ends at the end of the month. Your problem may go away on its own this weekend.

Also, i've noticed an uptick during the cold dark winter months. I'm ok with a little bit more time during the winter.

They dropped a new "og map" and it's spiking.

I agree that video games are not poison and you need to know your kid. Why are they home so much with nothing to do? I guess my kids schedule kind of kept it from being out of control.

My friends son joined a video game club in college and wins awards. It's not all bad.

Fortnite was great for my son - really helped him form friendships post-covid. All kids are different but he never really spent too much time on it. He stopped playing a few months ago and moved on to sports games. Video games are not actually poison.

Yeah. My 14 and 16 year olds hadn’t played in 2-3 years and now are playing again starting last month.

It seems to be coming back a bit. My kids hadn't played in a while and now they're picking it up again. Even my 14 year old who was never into it is playing now and again. It hasn't been a problem at all but I've noticed a renewed interest.

My 15 and 13 years olds are obsessed with fortnite, as are all their friends. It started as a couple hours of play time on the weekend and now they are begging to play all the time. They are in a crappy mood when they aren't allowed on (because inevitably there is always a friend "on") and its hard to plan family activities because they see their fortnite time on weekends as playdates with their friends and don't want to miss out. It seems like the harder we push to get them off and set limits, the harder it gets to control. Curious how other parents are dealing with this. Appreciate any insight of what you've found works well for balance at your house. Thanks!
