McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland is known for having excellent accessibility and support services, though not a specific autism program like some other colleges have. It’s a cute little college town, too.

Landmark College in Putney, VT. They have special ASD programs.

Join the Facebook Group, Parents of College Bound Kids with learning disabilities, ADHD, and ASD. They will easily be able to give you ideas. I’m from New England and I wouldn’t advise visiting campuses during this time; it may very well turn your kid off from a potential school. But I guess it’s also a realistic look at Maine weather!

I was going to suggest GMU, as well. My ASD kid went there. But OP said between DC and Maine. GMU is in Fairfax Virginia, west of DC.

Thanks for this really helpful feedback and all the ideas. I hear what some of you are saying re the schools being closed. But my daughter might really like that Sensory Room at Adelphi and it is right on the way, practically a midpoint -- seems pretty ideal!

I’m not sure visiting a deserted campus in December will be that interesting or fun. You have so much time if she’s only a freshman—maybe just pick a cute town instead, and bonus if there’s a college nearby. I’d pick where you want yo stop and narrow it down that way.

What does she want to study? If interested in STEM or art, Rochester Institute of Technology has a well regarded autism support program and my daughter really liked it when we visited. But it's not really on your way.

Going up to Maine for the holidays and wanted to maybe visit a college campus with my high school freshman ASD kid. She also thinks it might be neat to visit a college campus, but I haven't started researching and don't want to look someplace that will be far out of reach like an Ivy or something. Kid gets straight As in public school but does not take all the most advanced classes and has a lot of anxiety when stressed out. Any recommendations? Maybe December visits are bad because kids go home. Thanks in advance!
