We have the Breville, a French press and a Melita pour over. We use all three most weeks.

We have a Breville Dual Boiler and a DF83 grinder, along with a French press, Hario V60 and a Hario Switch, and an Aeropress. We take our coffee pretty seriously, especially after my husband discovered James Hoffman. Whom you should look up on YouTube. lol

The French press makes great coffee if you use clean water, quality beans, and a decent grinder. If you’re looking to get brewed coffee then look at a Technivorm Moccamaster. You can find used ones on eBay for around $150. Knew they are closer to $300.

If you want a proper latte then you’re in for a journey because espresso is a whole ‘nother beast. A Bambino is a fine starter machine. I’m not sure how it is for steaming milk but you can also get stand-alone frothers.

I would also recommend Lance Hedrick as a great coffee YouTuber. Both he and Hoffmann have videos that will answer all your questions in detail, plus more you haven’t thought of yet.

Good luck! 👍

I have a nespresso and that's what's on the counter for every day. The only time I need a coffee maker is when we have guests so I just kept my old one and it is in a cupboard. A french press would work fine for that purpose too.

Which model? The one that grinds beans?

NP - I have a Breville Bambino Plus espresso maker (no grinder) plus a Baratza burr grinder. When I have people over who don't want lattes, I just make Americanos. I also have six other ways to make coffee (cold brew drip, nespresso, keurig, chemex, french press, and bialetti) but the espresso maker is by far my favorite.

We’re not interested in a nespresso or other machine that requires pods.

So many options out there!

LOL. I have a Chemex (me) and a French press (my husband) that get used every single day + an espresso machine that we use a lot in the winter and a Nespresso milk frother pitcher that is amazing for making lattes and hot chocolate.

If you love lattes, I would get a Nespresso milk frother pitcher and use it with the French press.

I’d just get a Nespresso the Vertou version has pods for both espresso size and full cups of coffee.

I drink a pour over coffee in the morning and an espresso from Nespresso after lunch.
I still have 2 gadgets on the counter: the Nespresso machine and coffee grinder, both are used daily.

I love my Nespresso. Lattes all day long. Get one where the milk frother is a separate machine - not attached.

Having done all the options, I strongly prefer a pour-over. We had a Chemex for years, and then ultimately switched to a pour-over that goes directly into our mugs. It makes better coffee than the French press or a coffee maker and takes way less counter space.

An espresso maker can also be valuable, but I just never wanted to mess with it in the mornings. My husband would sometimes wake up and pull shots and make drinks, but not often enough to justify how much counter space it takes.

Anyway, if you're intent on getting an espresso maker, I definitely wouldn't bother with a coffee maker too. Either keep the French press, or get a pour-over.

I have a Rancilio Silvia that has been used every day since I bought it 20 years ago. Great machine.

We currently use a French press but are considering getting a coffee maker or an espresso maker. I drink my coffee with a lot of milk and love lattes. Does anybody have just an espresso maker? Will we regret not getting a coffee maker? I guess we could keep our French press to supplement the espresso maker.

Question 2–which espresso maker do you have and do you like it?
