As a 13 year old, she likely has some sense of the problem and could brainstorm solutions. I feel like you’re talking about her like she’s a malfunctioning robot or something.

I think it’s carrot or stick time.
Take away the thing she would rather do.
Or give her a reward for handing in assignments on time.

Does this teacher have a different method for submitting assignments? This happened with my DC, and after we had a conference, the teacher spent time reviewing the procedure because it was different from every other teacher’s online method.

I have no real solutions OP--but my 12 year old is similar and it drives me bananas. Often the assignment is done and she literally just hasn't clicked the "submit" button.

I just check online frequently and try to stay on top of reminding her. This year is slightly better than last year (as in last year I had to do a lot more reminding to do the assignments, this year she does them and just doesn't submit them.)

I am trying to be calmer about it and she legitimately does seem to be trying harder to stay on top of things this year. I'm trying to remember that she's only 12 and she's a hormonal stress ball--and whether her science homework gets turned in today or tomorrow doesn't really matter in the long run. I think me being calmer (but still persistent) is getting better results.

I don’t think so, no. Last semester it was math. Now she’s improved in math and it’s just ELA.

I think she *won’t*, but because she’s lazy? Or would rather come home and do other things? She CAN, and does: tonight we sat down and she was done in under an hour, no troubles—and they were both on paper and on the computer, both of which she had everything she needed to complete the assignments. And it’s just this class. Last semester it was math. Now she’s doing great in math (as far as turning in assignments.)

Is she worried about “criticism”? Is there any anxiety associated with her class? Is it one class or all classes?

Do you really think she *won't* (wilfully refuses) or can't? Is she remembering to do the assignments? Are they on paper or computer? Is she leaving the work at home or failing to take it out of her backpack at school? Does she not turn in assignments in all subjects or just this class?

Does she have a phone?

She wasn’t. She didn’t have much homework, and I guess the teachers themselves were diligent about them turning in work.

I’m at the end of my rope with DD13, who is currently failing her ELA class, not due to an inability to understand the work, but because of missing assignments. She refuses to turn in her assignments. This was a problem last semester and she made an effort to correct the issue, but she’s fallen back into her old bad habits.

Before TG break we checked the portal and nothing was missing; we would have had her work on it over break. Today I look and she’s missing nearly every assignment and is currently failing the class.

I don’t know what to do that will WORK! Please help! What worked for you? What do you think will work for me?
