True, but it is also very annoying that sales tax was already paid on this car once and then has to be paid again? seems like doubledipping to me by the state so who cares.

1. Decide on the price with your mom and then give her a check for that amount.
2. Go to the DMV to transfer the vehicle title and say it is a gift from your mother
3. Fill out the Purchaser's Statement of Tax Exemption and give the reason as:
A gift to the spouse, son, daughter or parent of the transferor. With the
exception of a gift to a spouse, this exemption shall not apply to any
unpaid obligation assumed by the transferee incidental to the transfer;
