NP here. Family of 4 here that includes 2 kids and two 45 yr old adults. We don't have even 1 million so far. Not including the house. After reading the threads here, I wonder if we should avoid living the after retirement life in DC metro area.

We have slightly less than $2M in "official retirement saving accounts/401k and IRAs) (the last 2 years have not been helpful). We contribute the max to IRA and to the one working member's 401k (the other hasn't worked in 20+ years for pay). However we have much more saved outside of those accounts.

Me. I’m 56, single, with about $1.2 in retirement savings. And I think I’m doing pretty well compared to most Americans. DCUM is nothing like mainstream America.

Mid 50's and mine is about $850K. Spouse has about the same plus a pension. You can read the stats on this -- DCUM is a bubble. For most of the US, this is a very high sum saved.
