Try the finis agility paddles - they won’t stay on unless your hands are in the right position, so there’s no learning curve. They run big, in my opinion

THANK YOU for answering. Yes, it is on my right hand as well, and I thought it had to be some sort of positioning that I was doing poorly. Like positioning my hand a certain way while I pull through the water creating excess tension on the thumb joint.

I don't know what paddles are!

Do you keep your thumb tight to your hand when you pull through the stroke?

NP - yes, keep your thumb in to your hand all the way through the stroke. You can cup your hands very slightly - might help to think of your thumb as part of the cup.

Perhaps too much information about paddles: https://www.yourswimlog.com/ultimate-guide-swim-paddles/

Are you using a paddle? What stroke do you primarily swim (I'd assume freestyle)?

Only other thing I can think is your hand is just in a strange position/you're "clenching" and you're causing it stress with your catch.

Just a person who took up swimming for exercise a year ago; not a serious swimmer. I swim twice a week for 40 min.

What am I doing with my technique that is causing some mild pain in my hand where my thumb connects to hand? It's an over-use thing.

Any ideas?
