Is this the same guy? When I google his phone number that LinkedIn profile with the same name comes up first.

I don’t really want to open any attachment in his email. Why can’t they mail the documents?

212 is Manhattan. Not Rhode Island.

That’s complete bullshit. Block and ignore.

I looked up the number they called me from and this guy’s LinkedIn profile came up first in search results. The guy’s name matched the phone ID and the name he introduced himself with.

I don’t know if this employer overpaid me or not. I only worked for them for a week and then got paid. I thought it was a little high, but since I don’t have a single paystub from them I have no idea.

Yes. Do verify. I saw a too-good-to-be-true rental listing and contacted the agent directly. They told me someone was posing as them.

That’ll show him.

Sounds like a classic overpayment scam. You weren't actually ever overpaid by anyone, were you?

And how do you know it actually was this guy? I looked up that lawyer and it doesn't appear to me that his practice lends itself to calling people the day after Thanksgiving over $2,000, lol. It would cost 2k just to have him make the phone call
. And the comment about not trusting the mail is the reddest flag ever.

His law firm profile is here: https://www.nelsonmullins.com/professionals/joe-daniels#main You might email to confirm it wasn't actually him (and let him know people are spoofing him).

I feel like scammers can claim to be a Big Law lawyer knowing that people will google a name while they are on the phone. And when people Google, and they see it is a Big Law lawyer, they think it is legit and just fold and fall into the scam. But the person they were talking to was never the person on the phone.

At any rate, that highly-compensated law firm partner isn't going to be heading in to court over $2000, lol.

Scam. Ask for a call back number next time.
Location of his office. Etc.

Sounds like a scam to me.
They like to threaten court/arrest to scare you into paying.
Ignore.

I got a call from this guy today (!!, the day after Thanksgiving) saying he’s an attorney who is representing my former employer.

His Linkedin says he’s a partner. Would a partner be cold calling people on a holiday?

https://www.linkedin.com/in/joe-daniels-4511a02?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app

He says this employer overpaid me and if I don’t pay back, they will take it to court.

I did receive a couple letters in the mail supposedly from this employer saying I overpaid and asking to pay back 2K. I sent them a letter ask for evidence such as paystubs and never heard from them again.

This guy said he could email me the pay stubs. I said I don’t open emails from people I don’t know and asked if he would mail it. He said they don’t trust USPS as the mail gets lost. Wtf?

Then he hung up on me as I was trying to explain that I did receive the previous letters from them via USPS. He said he’ll see me in court.
