Turkey trots are for fun, not PR. That's why its called a trot. This is not your typical 5k, its for families to get moving.

I don't think this race is the PR sort of race - more like a fun run - but start at the front if you care.

Just run your five miles in your neighborhood if you're so worried about your time and avoiding walkers. Be a problem solver instead of a complainer.

Don’t set time goals at a race like this. You clearly know better. Or, don’t get bent out of shape when most of the runners at a low-key, family-friendly event mostly want to have fun. It’s not Boston.

I signed up for the 7:15 pace group for a ten miler and people were walking within the first 2 miles of the race, and yes, blocking my path. Just assume at any crowded race there will be dumb oblivious people, including those who severely overestimate their capabilities.

Just get to the head of the line next year. Most 5ks go to have the runners line up first. NBD for us walkers.

How come everyone on an escalator knows that if you are just going to stand, you stand to the right so people can walk up next to you?

Why isn't there some sort of etiquette in a 5 miles race that if you are going to walk, you walk to the right? The Alexandria Turkey Trot had people all mixed up in the start area and it was a pain to get through. Why don't they have time markers? And the route is so stupid. Every year I say I'm not going to do it again but I always do. I know it's a "fun family event" but some people set time goals!
