At least I didn’t cook all the liquid off and scorch the pot bottom. Been there, done that. Thankfully I do seem to learn after each disaster.

I will look for Barkeeper’s Friend.

Enjoy the day, everyone.

I burned a black crest to my pot yesterday, and soaked it in Barkeepers overnight. Washed/polished it this morning and it looks like new now. I love all clad.

FYI if you have something oily that doesn’t easy dissolve in plain hot water, soaking overnight in soapy water often does the trick.

OP here reporting back so I can just search existing threads next time I do something stupid like step away from sugary recipes.

I boiled water in the crud covered pot. After a few minutes, the burnt sugar was much easier to scrape off. Because sugar dissolves in hot water - duh. Some light scrubbing and my pot looks fine.

Thank you all. Have a wonderful holiday.

Thank you for the link. Your Google searches are better than mine.

I’ve been soaking in hot soapy water. Added a little vinegar. Will try boiling a baking soda paste to see if it loosens the epoxy-like crud.

I appreciate the clear-headed and kind people who are responding!

Have you tried adding water to the pot and boiling it?

This is what I would try. Sugar will usually eventually melt.

I made homemade cranberry sauce and stepped away too long. Now the bottom is shellacked with a burnt sugar layer.

I have those soap infused Brillo abrasive pads. Ugh, so much scrubbing.

Is there a better way to do this? I need this pot tomorrow.

Thank you!!!
