I grew up in West Texas and have lived in Houston, Austin, El Paso, Dallas, and have spent a lot of time in San Antonio. Dallas is the only place I'd consider moving back to.

Before I visited I would’ve also turned up my nose immediately but my attitude was shifted.

Was in Dallas for 10 days - my first time and I was pleasantly impressed.

Spent time around deep Ellum/old East Dallas, downtown, around SMU, victory park, and even went out to Fort Worth and quality of life seems very high, it was pretty clean, I didn’t see homeless (I rode public transport as much as possible and walked when I could — which locals thought I was weird since no one seems to walk and only service people seem to use DART rail).

What am I missing?

I’m normally a northeast homer (even get on DC being “too southern”) but Dallas seems to genuinely be pretty nice major city.

It gave me the opposite reaction of Denver and Nashville- which has been a hot cities for 20 years but when I went to those cities also for 2 weeks I was thoroughly disappointed.
