Ugh, you all are worse than hummers, whistlers and throat clearers. Just mean, and proud of how annoyed you are by someone in your home.

Please be understanding. It’s probably a tic. They might not be aware they are doing it or be able to control it. I have two kids with Tourette Syndrome. Sometimes they make strange movements or noises. They wax and wane and change over time. Most people wouldn’t know they have TS because people think of the stereotypical worst case scenario they see in the media. They have both been fortunate to have understanding family and friends. I’m glad TS hasn’t held them back but I always worry about the day they are rejected because of it. My young adult daughter who had been pretty symptom free recently started humming. I made a comment that it was nice (because I thought it sincerely was) and she told me it’s her new tic. She said people have been expressing annoyance but she can’t stop.

They’re stimming. Have some compassion.

Such an annoying bad habit to get into. I agree with PP turn on low music maybe it will stop. But next time maybe don't invite this guest. This would drive me crazy. So much worse than the constant foot shakers.

It’s a nervous tick. Possibly turret’s syndrome or some type of ASD manifestation. She’s not doing it to annoy you. Let it go.

My husband’s grandmother does this. She’s 90 though, so we have the tv or music on when she’s around.

My mom walks around the house whistling. Growing up I wanted to scream most of the time it was so irritating.

Oh yes. My DH is like this. It helps if he puts on some quiet background music. Then it's like that keeps the humming/singing portion of his brain busy. Give it a try!

My husband hums like that. I mostly can tune it out but the times I can’t it does wear on me a bit. He doesn’t even know he’s doing it.

Earplugs? Headphones? Play music? Maybe then she’ll at least hum along.

This is going to the thread, yeah?

My spouse talks SO MUCH, and we are staying in a very echo-y house. His voice is on from sun up to down down. I can hear every single thing he says

I have a house guest who always hums when she’s not talking. It’s not even a tune. It’s just humming noises. Constantly. I mean not a single moment without. We’re 6 days in for a Thanksgiving visit and I think it’s going to break me.
