My dog got it. She never goes to dog parks, doggy day care, and has never been boarded. She hasn't been to a groomer in months because I groom her myself.

She doesn't even interact with other dogs, aside from her brother. It was awful. She spent two nights at the vet. They put her on steroids, fluids, antibiotics, etc. It cost over $3k.

So all those who "aren't worried" - maybe you should be.

Would mobile groomer be better or same risk?

It's in the article linked in the first post. They think it is likely bacterial. An odd, small bacterium.

Ugh. I have to put my guy in doggy daycare on Friday while we travel all day. I'm a little concerned but it's not at the top of my worries. Last time I boarded him, he came home with a doggy cold. Fortunately, he recovered after a few days.

My vet sent out a psa email about this. One of my dogs does go to a groomer (she's a poodle, and very anxious, I wouldn't want to try it myself, so that's not a real option). So I'm a little nervous about the dog viruses going around. But she has her check up with the vet next week so I'll make sure she gets every vaccine that might help and ask my vet what she recommends as far as whether or not it is serious enough for me to keep her away from grooming for awhile.

I do foster dogs and won't foster any for now until the danger passes. I do worry about fosters passing something on to my dogs.

I read that it's spread through mucous membranes and that dogs that haven't visited any of those high-traffic places (groomer, dog park, daycare, etc) have become ill. Apparently just taking a walk in the neighborhood can put your dog at risk. I'm not worried, but it does sound like it's very contagious.

I’m not too worried because I don’t plan to board my dogs or take them to dogs parks or daycare. We use a mobile groomer that disinfects after each dog. Otherwise, I do think I’d be altering our routines. On Reddit, there are folks in the NOVA forum saying that dogs in this area are presenting with symptoms. Be vigilant.

Have you been hearing about this and are you concerned? I'm not worried or anything but it seems like something to at least be mindful of. I'll admit, I need to take my dog for grooming in the next week or two and this is certainly on my mind a little.
