The cars probably have them. Someone probably accidentally turned them off, and if you’ve been driving for the past 10 years, and never had to turn your headlights on, I could see how you’re not thinking about it.

We own an older sports car, that is mainly just driven on the weekends. It doesn’t have automatic lights, and DH sometimes forgets to turn them on even at night, especially if he’s in a well lit parking lot. He usually remembers as he’s pulling out onto a dark road and he can barely see.

Driving last night in the rain was a nightmare worse was no one had their headlights on! I spotted at least 15 cars last night with no headlights on not even the daytime running lights.

I think they must have them, but people don’t use them. I was put last night and numerous people had no headlights on, in the dark and the rain. People should lose their license for doing that. It is so dangerous.

I don't understand why people don't leave their headlights on all the time. It helps with visibility to matter what the lighting or weather conditions are. Some cars just blend into the road even in full daylight.

I notice the same and it drives me crazy. All of you who think you know when you need them, I bet you don't actually turn them on. You're dangerous.

But do you do it?

Many people in NOVA don't drive in the full dark with headlights. They probably don't realize it because street lights are bright. Also, in the rain. It is the law in Virginia and many other states to turn on your headlights when it is raining.

I believe I said I knew when to turn them on, didn’t I?

And in my favorite car, the high beam switch is on the floor, too. I have zero use for modern cars.

My new car has them and I don't use them. I hate the excess light pollution. At night, and when needed (rain on Tuesday), I turn on my headlights, and then I turn them off

There should be an automatic connection between wipers being on and headlights being used. It wouldn’t help the people who are seemingly unaware that they need to turn on their lights starting at dusk, but it would help a lot on days like yesterday when it’s pouring.

My 2024 car has auto headlights but it has to be really dark for them to operate. Pouring rain won’t do it. My older version had headlights that came on with low light but not this car.

My car has auto headlights, and daytime running lights. Because of this, I got out of the habit of doing anything with the lights when it is dark. This is fine, except when DH borrows my car, because he turns everything off. Then the next time I drive it, I spend a while lamenting my "bad night vision" before I realize that my lights are off.

Even on cars with auto headlights, you need to set it to auto. A lot of service departments set it to off when they’re working on the car.

All those new cars have automatic headlight settings. I have no idea why people don’t use them or why people don’t know they need headlights on in the rain, or even at night. Seeing more and more cars with daytime running lights and no rear brake lights on when it’s fully dark outside. WTF people.

As I was running errands today in the pouring rain, I was shocked how many newer cars (many expensive ones) apparently don't have automatic headlights? I'm driving a 12 year old mid-trim minivan and it has automatic headlights that turn on automatically when I'm using my wipers. I saw tons of expensive SUVs today with no headlights.

Why don't people know they are supposed to use headlights in the pouring rain?
