OP here, yeah, that memoir stank. I think some of his very early stuff is poor, the Red Notebook is amazing and then he kind of hit his stride with The Book of Illusions and The Brooklyn Follies, I loved those and then - stagnation. So disappointing.

I really loved 4-3-2-1 and then tried something else by him... I think it was a memoir, and just found it terrible.

Anyone reading this? I just read the first few pages on Amazon and it was boring, the minutiae of an old man's morning.

I used to devour Auster books, but he's slid somewhere along the line, and I think his memoir about sleeping with prostitutes put the final nail in the coffin for me.
