No, if we moved, bought a new one, we just paid off our current house so we'd take our time moving and keep both houses temporarily.

They might have found something they loved that wasn't available 3 years ago. Or there might be something they don't like with the house. If you are interested in it, all you can do is get an inspection, talk to neighbors if you have a chance.

You don’t know what is happening in someone’s life. Divorce? Job change? Inheritance? Loss of a job?

Also, a friend sold their home at a weird time because one of their kids was sick so they moved to a different state with the best specialists for their child. They couldn’t afford to rent and own and worked remotely.

Sometimes people buy a home and end up hating it and then want to move.

If you are worried get an excellent inspection and speak with neighbors if there are any neighborhood issues.

Same situation happened with us. Small child (baby). Listed first week in September. Lived in a house in Alexandria for about 3 years.

We inherited a house in CCDC that is closer to family. However the house wasn't livable and needed substantial work. We planned to sell in Spring, but plans changed when our reno timeline slipped to fall/winter.

Our realtor advised us to list in the first week of September. Apparently right after labor day is the best time to sell in the fall, since buyers are back from vacations and can move in before the holidays. She was right: our home sold immediately (vs. the multiple months it took the previous owners to sell)

It’s not as big a deal to switch schools a month into the school year for little kids, whereas it would be more disruptive to a middle or high schooler.

Also maybe their income increased substantially over 3 years or they got a windfall and they found a nicer home nearby. Plenty of moves are local.

They found a house they like better and aren’t tied to the school calendar?
