If it is a high quality professional job then I guess that is possibly worth the price. If it looks like cheap modular Elfa or IKEA then that is too much.

seems high to me. if you can DIY at all you can do this with products from home depot, ikea, etc..

go to container store and have them suggest an elfa system. then decide what you want to do.

Yes, I agree on price as well but make sure it includes painting. I just had built in dressers installed for similar price.

That is a very reasonable DC quote for demolishing existing closet and then installing a custom closet. Please share contractor info.

Sounds about right. Drawers and shelves are pricy and if any cabinet isn’t a standard width, it costs more. Get a couple quotes and compare - you’ll see they’re usually in the same (high!) ballpark. I’ve found California Closets to have the highest quote. Try Closet Stretchers, Closets by Design, and Closet & Beyond along with elfa to get a sense of cost.

Maybe Pax would be fine for your son’s room?

Try to find a carpenter for a quote. But it doesn’t seem that high to me, esp if it includes painting. I found it helpful to design something similar with Elfa for comparison- a 2x10 configuration I was working on this week came out to $4100, and that would be much less nice than a custom wardrobe with real drawers etc.

What dimensions?

We are in dc. No closet space at all in these old rowhouses and a contractor quoted me $5300 for built in shelves/custom closet built in for my son’s bedroom (they both share a room so we need more space). Is this way too high on price?
