Thankfully ours is not a must-do project yet, we can keep our current windows for the time being which is what we'll be doing for sure!

Anderson is a total rip off. Go with someone local

NP. Is it better to get Anderson windows through someone local? ie are the windows themselves a rip-off or is it getting them directly from Anderson that is the problem?

So I have some older Anderson windows but the contractor I trust recommended a local window manufacturer for the value and the windows were very, very nice!

Which manufacturer?

The window man was awesome for us. I don't think there was a single window that had a square space to slot into but they still got 22 windows in in a day.

I would get an independent contractor to install the windows. When we’ve done this, the price was reasonable, particularly when compared to the astronomical price quoted by Anderson to install them

I would get "new construction" (i.e., not "insert" type) fiberglass-framed insulated windows from HD or Lowes and pay them to have them install the windows.

The 3 best quality window companies are Andersen, Marcin, and Pella. HD sells one of those. Lowes sells a different one. HD and Lowes also sell lower cost brands. Fiberglass never rots or tears or warps - and it is a good insulator unlike metal. It can be painted without the paint peeling off. So we prefer that over metal/vinyl/wood framed windows.

We avoid vinyl windows, and avoid those insert-type windows, and want fiberglass framed windows, because we want a permanent window (rather than one which will need to be replaced in X years).

I really enjoyed working with Crystal Exteriors. No hard sell, good materials, fairly priced and excellent workmanship.

We’re looking for a composite window with a clean, modern, plain look. Good energy ratings, too, of course. And especially a good team for installation.

That's what we plan to do. After DH saw the estimate that was it for Anderson.

I've used RIBA construction in the past and recently saw they have a bulk window discount

Welp, we finally need to bite the bullet and replace failing vinyl windows. The ratings and materials are just a maze to sort out. We are eyeing composite windows and want to find a company that sells & installs the windows. Who do you recommend? And who do you not recommend? Thanks— appreciate the value of your experience.
