We get the Whole Foods Chantilly cake every year multiple times a year.

Wegmans imo. I am a good baker and usually bake my own but I have tried Safeway and Giant cakes of various flavors and the frosting has odd after taste. Whole Foods used to be good but now they are dry and not very flavorful but they look beautiful. Wegmans is the closest to homemade taste in my experience.

^^^You can buy the Chantilly cupcake to try, or even the very small size of the cake which might give you a better idea than the cupcake. We use it as a go-to cake. Far better than any store bought cakes.

Yes, but I ordered one for a birthday and even though I paid extra for filling, it was one layer and they forgot the filling. I called to see what the mistake was—did they forget filling AND a layer—they said they are always one layer and they cut the (2 inch max) layer in half to put filling in between. Not sure I’ll order one from there again. The cake was supposed to feed like 40 people but was so thin it barely fed 20.

I’d put Harris teeter next for that kind of sheet cake.

I need to try a Pepperidge farm frozen coconut cake and see if it’s still delicious. Or just my memories from the 80s.

Can confirm it is still delicious. Nostalgia might be playing a role, there, though.

I really love Safeway for white cake with strawberry, raspberry or lemon filling and whipped icing. I order it for most special occasions.

What is the best store bought cake? Looking for vanilla, white cake, or yellow cake... basic birthday cake.

I think Whole Foods cakes are probably bad, and I'm not willing to eat Walmart cake. How about Costco? Random grocery store like Safeway/Giant?
