If there is a chronic health issue then your kid can talk to the professor ahead of time and see if arrangements can be made. I was in the hospital for one final during college and I was given a time to make it up.

What chronic health issues would have conflicts that far in advance. Like having a medical procedure?

How is someone’s anecdote of what their kid did going to help you? This varies by college and even professor.

Do you think your kid is the only one OOS. You plan around the set dates and change plans if need be.

Uh, no. There are usually very proscribed days and times during finals period for each class so there are no conflicts. The professor didn’t pick the day and time.

She can ask the prof.
