Asbury is a ccc - continuing care community- and has many very vibrant, independent residents living independently. They have small villas as well as condos. Many people move in before needing care and take advantage of the many activities on campus.

For residents that but in they also guarantee care as long as you need it, even if you run out of money. I know of several people who lived there past 100 when their funds likely ran out sometime in their 80s.

Independent living at Asbury includes people from their 60s through their nineties. Sone are completely independent and live there for companionship and future planning, others pay for nurses/aids and receive a lot of support.

If you visit, eat in the Bistro or cafe rather than the dining room- there will be more fully independent people.

Start looking now. Many places have waiting lists. And it’s better to have an idea of what your options are before you are in desperate need of it.

My parents and I looked at several places in 2018 and put a deposit to be place on the waitlist at one place. Just as we needed something in 2020, they had an opening in the apartment size they wanted. So lucky we had done that 2 years before.

Before you jump into looking at places, ask her if they have any plans about how they want to handle aging. And then follow their lead.

If you've never discussed it, it's pretty rude to start with, "Hey, Mom, we're touring assisted living places while you're visiting."

My mom is in town and while I don’t envision needing medical support services like Asbury for another 5 years, is it too early to look? I want to get an idea of what kind of $$ we’re looking at and for her to give input on whether it’s something she and my dad may want.
