Subject: Please recommend a lego set - 9 year old boy
Thank everyone. I got the car since it had a slight majority of people voting for it. And if it is too hard, it is a better set for just free building as the other one was basically all grey pieces.

First one. Lego skews their ages downward (to avoid frustration, I guess), and their Technic sets are a tad more difficult, hence more age-appropriate.

I have 3 kids who love legos. You can go to any Walmart or target and just pick one. Both of your picks look a bit complicated if it is a kid who is not used to building. JMO.
My boys loved the ninjago and Star Wars Lego at that age. There are also lots of marvel, Harry Potter and super Mario brothers ones.

I always find that Lego are optimistic with their age recommendations. Maybe our DC is just slower than other kids, I dunno. If kid is already very good at Lego, then either. If not already very good, then pick an 8+ set.

Second one. Star Wars legos are always very popular, and that one is from the mandalorian.

Both look really cool but I’d go with the first one, too.

I am buying a wish list gift for a holiday toy drive and a 9 year old requested a lego set. Would either of these be a good one? Or is there something else that is "in" these days for legos in the $40-$50 range on amazon prime?
