If I know that my car is going to take a few hours, I rent a car for the day. By the time you Uber home and back to the dealership, the price of a car rental for the day is close to the Uber price, but you've had the benefit of still having the use of a vehicle.

Unless you live hours away, just drop it off and then pick it up before they close. Why torment yourself?

There is no one hour in/out. If you take it in, at least 3 hours (if something very simple) to whole day or longer if something complicated

Mine prioritize those who are waiting to get done first.

Drop it the night before. Pick it up after work the following day.

It seems like all of the dealerships are understaffed since COVID. My last appt took EIGHT hours. Your car will likely take 3+ hours. Definitely Uber

I always get a loaner car, but I pre-paid for that when I bought a "buyer protection plan" for like $500 when I bought the vehicle four years ago.

TBH, it has paid for itself. I always get a $75 off coupon and then I get a loaner car for free. I feel like it incentivizes them to get the work done ASAP.

Anyone ever done this? I’d do work/work calls, but I’m afraid it’ll be loud in the waiting area. There’s nothing nearby, not even a place for coffee. Should I just grin and bear it?

Is this a real question? Is this not something most adults have to plan for at least once a year, if not more often? Dealerships have whole waiting rooms outfitted with beverages and snacks entirely for this purpose. Sometimes they have employees who can give you a lift within X miles. Sometimes a loaner car. Me, I trade favors with neighbors and we give each other rides to/from the service place. When I've taken a car in when I was working in an office, a co-worker was the ride giver.

Anyone ever done this? All of us have. All the time.

+1

OP, just Uber, there is no reason to bother anyone for a ride in 2023. Also, how old are you? You seem kind of helpless.

I'd Uber home. Why bother waiting. It's not going to take an hour. It always takes longer than expected. I've started to drop my car off the night before and Uber home in the evening. Then they can get started on it first thing in the morning. Usually by 9:30 they call me with a ballpark time for pickup.

That's what I would do.
