It's a safety school, where mediocre students end up.

And from there, a lot of them are "successful" (ie, self-sustaining, career, family, etc).

Not compared to other publics. We had one in UVA and one at GMU at the same time. GMU was more.

They are trolling. Anyone who uses that 2.0 line or community college is. Or they haven't visited Mason or its five campuses in 20 years

Kind of like UVA is HS 2.0

It doesn't help that OP sounds like a dunce who can't write and doesn't recognize the difference between a "safe school" and a "safety school."

That is actually why I even read the OP's post. I thought the poster might not be local and was concerned about crime. Jumped on to say it is in a very safe area.

Two of my neighbors kids are current sophomores there.
For both of them, it was their first choice school.
It's got some great programs and a diverse student body.

It's ok if a school isn't the right choice for your student. It's the right choice for other students and no one is forcing your child to apply/attend George Mason.

It is a really good school. We know happy graduates from there who went on to have excellent careers.
Our two older kids didn't want to go there because it is almost literally in our neighborhood but our youngest may consider.

It is a safety but..

It is not

NOVA 2.0
pretty much a 4 year community college

A CS or an Accounting degree, for example from GMU can set you up for success. And its much cheaper.

My son applied because it’s a good engineering school and there are lots of internship opportunities. Might not get in though, it’s not a safety school.

Sounds like it’s not for you if you think about it like that.

We know lots of happy kids there. Their families are in FFX county, but they live in the dorms. The campus is beautiful, great food, everything is modern. The basketball team is good, lots of events on campus, the recreational facilities top notch, and lots of club sports.

It's a great academic school as well.

You need to make sure you aren't talking like this to your daughter. It sounds like you think you are too good for GMU and that is insulting to the many hardworking smart kids that go there

This line in particular- Is anyone that applied to George Mason applied because they want to go there?

Beside being near home what is one good thing about mason?

Its NOVA 2.0
it's pretty much a 4 year community college...

My daughter has a 3.5 GPA, not sure if it will be good enough for VT or UVA, but Mason will be in.
