That's actually creepy, not "zany." It is very weird for an adult of any gender to ask the age of another adult, especially after the age of 30. It's a childish question.

Tell the ",You go first" and then pivot off whatever their response is. Never get around to answering the question.

I just tell them, but I also think it's weird people ask your age all the time. Even if you look young for your age, you look what, 35? The difference in life phase between 42 and 35 is negligible.

I have always looked young for my age and it was awkward in my 20s when I looked like a teen but once I hit mid-30s it didn't matter anymore. I became a mom kind of late (37) and as a result people just assume I'm maybe 5 years younger than I am, but at this point I don' know if that's how I look or the fact that I have a kid a certain age and most of the other moms are about 5 years younger than I am. My age comes up very rarely and when it does people might express mild surprise but it's not like some fundamental shock.

While your post is really just about you bragging about your perceived youthful looks, I'll bite. Yes, I tell them - I'm not shy about my age. That said it's usually my contemporaries that ask me, and always a female friend or acquaintance. And it's always in context of the current conversation. Never has anyone out of the blue asked me my age, it's related to a current discussion we're having.

You need to have a witty or sarcastic comeback.
. Something like "I'm older than you, but younger than dinosaurs"
Or "my kid thinks I'm 104 yrs old...he's not too far off".

Or be vague and say"im in my mid 40s and loving it"(spin it so you don't seem "old").

What is the context that so many people are asking your age point blank? So odd.

Why do you ask?

I cannot remember the last time someone asked my age, but maybe 4-5 year ago I stopped getting carded. I’m 48.

How do you respond? I'm 42 and asked for my age all the time especially by aquaintances, coworkers, and relatives. Many perceive me to be younger and it's getting awkward for me to say my real age.
