I use quality UPSs on my sensitive electronics. Nothing whole-house.

I have a 1500 one for my AV setup, another 1500 for my internet router and three POE wifi access points, and a smaller one for the fios box itself.

It’s on my list to do the next time we need to hire an electrician for something so I can but it before the appointment but I’m not doing a special call for it.

They are a good idea and are usually not too expensive to purchase and have installed. Major appliances cannot be easily plugged into standalone surge protectors, and a surge can destroy wall ovens, refrigerators, and stoves powered by electrcity, not to mention the electric motors in HVAC systems and electric washers/dryers. Wall-mounted televisions and soundbars also can also usually only be protected through whole house systems. Whole house surge protection can also serve as a first line of defense for sensitive smaller electronics like computers which can also be plugged into individual surge protectors for a layered defense.

Do not have or need whole house version. Do have a low cost power strip with UPS+surge protector, but only for the FIOS equipment.

Looking for advice/recent experiences. With so many new homes using electric-- from induction cooktops to electric heat pumps to car chargers...does the value of a whole home surge protector change? I'm not really talking lighting strike risk, more like protecting from normal power fluctuations in the grid. For those who DON"T have them--do you wish you did? Has it caused issues with HVAC or appliances?
