Cheers to you, OP! I did the opposite: I committed to making four sides, and told my husband he’s in charge of buying or making the turkey. I told him he could also do just a breast and some legs or whatever if he doesn’t want to deal with the whole bird. He’s making at least two pies as well, and people can show up with whatever, I don’t care. I’m covered with my favorite sides and I’m not concerned about what else does or does not show up on the table.
People have benefitted from my full-deal hospitality for years, and if they don’t like my downshift, they can step up and host for once.
