I emailed to refer my DD (first grade) and was informed she was already getting Level II services, which I did not know. I did it because the teacher told me she was way ahead and I want to make sure she stays engaged.

Yes - if you think your child should be receiving services, then request it. We were told "everyone is assessed" and "you don't have to do anything", but found out later that all the other high performers were getting pull-outs with AART, and DC wasn't, (with 99% iReady's and 136 NNAT and COGAT). Now, granted, I will admit that the pull-outs are largely worthless education-wise given their frequency, but it's also where the majority of the the work samples will come from in the school's packet, and puts them on the radar for the teachers to pay closer attention for examples to point out in the packet.

It worked out for us in the end, but I wish I had advocated earlier.

It's a program for families with means who don't want their kids to be in class with poors.

Level II was a special reading group and extra math sheets for DS. It wasn’t all that exciting. The main thing it told us was that the AART and the Teachers saw DS as needing something beyond the regular curriculum, which probably was helpful when DS’s package was put together for LIV.

You can ask for them to review your child’s file but if your child was in FCPS last year they would have looked at your child already. We received the notification at the end of the year.

Level III is only third-grade and up.

If you feel like your child isn’t being challenged and feel like you need justification to your teacher, it’s worth it. But it’s probably easier to talk to teacher, as it really just means your child will be in higher groupings in class (whether explicitly identified or not).

You may want to have this moved to the aap forum

I've read level 2 is mostly nothing. Very curious in others perspective? We have the form printed and are wondering if it's worth it to submit for 1st grade DS

I was surprised that parents can request an assessment of whether their child qualifies for level ii/iii AAP outside the standard assessment that the school conducts in May.
Is it worth the try or we should just wait until the regular test and hope that kids will qualify for level IV and start AAP in the 3rd grade?
Curious to learn if partial AAP is worth the effort...
