I just had my second and I’m actually thinking I’d rather have the footrest that comes out of the chair. Plus the recliner. Basically a la-z-boy but smaller because we don’t have space.

Didn’t get one with my first, and we got by. However, when visiting my in-laws this summer I ended up rocking my now-toddler in their glider several times, and I was amazed at how quickly he fell asleep! Now I’m pregnant with #2 and we are getting a glider for the new baby’s room.

I am currently pregnant with my second. I wanted to be a minimalist with my first so convinced myself I didn’t need it.

It’s not a necessity BUT I regretted not getting it in the end — I feel like I missed out on much more comfortable snuggles/nursing (which I mostly did in bed) AND as DC1 became a toddler, was feeling like I was missing out on nice moments reading, rocking, “talking” because we didn’t have anywhere comfortable to do it.

All that said, bought one a few months ago to use with baby 2 but have also used it every single day with my 20 month old toddler — so I say get it!!

100% necessary through at least a year while they need to breastfeed or drink a bottle and useful through the toddler years. If I could go back in time though I’d get a big ugly La-Z-Boy instead of a fancy breastfeeding rocker/recliner because they are so much more padded and comfortable. I still use ours every day at three years old. It’s a big arm chair glider thing from RH. If you have room it’s wonderful, but not necessary.

My three year old will probably die if we got rid of his and it’s a crappy one that’s leaning and squeaky.

We used ours until DD was 2 and moved into a bed. It was nice for reading/snuggles at bedtime.

We got ours as a hand-me-down and use it pretty much every day at bedtime still (she's 4.5), but at the same time it takes up a lot of room in DD's bedroom and we certainly could have found a way without it. If you have a big nursery/bedroom, it's definitely a nice to have. I don't think it's a need.

Yes to a glider. I thought it was unnecessary and ended up buying one second-hand when baby was a few weeks old. Kid is now 10 and I sit in it every night to read stories, still. In between, it was great for nursing, reading, rocking a sick or sad kid, etc.

Mine doesn't recline but I wish it did: could have used that during some late nights with baby and also when recovering from surgery or congestion.

Make sure it can be locked to stop the gliding, so it doesn't become a hazard for unsupervised kids.

Expecting a baby in winter. Should I get one of these? How long can I expect to use it for? Will have full time help for the first 3 months if that makes a difference. Will it be helpful past this period?
