Oakton will be hard to make if you aren't good. Fairfax MUCH easier. They have some super fast swimmers but the team cuts will be so much easier than Oakton

I just pulled up the VHSL Patriot District meet in meet mobile from last year and scrolled through the Fairfax team. I recognize most of the boys’ names from club swim, though not all.

They have strong teams. Girls were district champs the past two years, boys were second last year and first in 2022 IIRC.

Oakton is going to have lots of club swimmers since there’s a good amount of wealth at the school.

Lots of non-club swimmers on our HS team, but the standouts.

There are non club kids on some teams. Depends on the school. Some schools have cut teams and those will be mostly club and year round type great athletes. Other teams definitely have lots of non club swimmers. Look at the division.

Usually only one weekend, so 1-2 meets are affected so it doesn’t affect HS swim all that much.

The High School coach for my kid's team get PISSED when kids skip meets, but also thinks that high school meets are the key to getting into college - perhaps back in the day, not so now.

HS districts, regions, and states are the only observed HS meets where times count for USA swimming (and thus used for college consideration), so if you have a kid with any desire to swim in college at any level then your swimmer 1000% needs to skip their hs meet and focus on the club winter championship meet!

Just be aware that skipping too many HS meets (I think at our it is 3+) will disqualify you from competing in districts/regions/states where the times do count for USA swimming.

That must make it tough on the Juniors out there trying to swim in college. Tough choice.

So our HS has tryouts this week and looking at the meet schedule it is a lot of Friday and Saturday nights. How does that work with Club championships? Finals would conflict with a HS meet.

Do times count for USA Swimming? I saw somewhere on here that they do not, how does that factor in for college consideration?
