I like mine but you still need to sweep or vacuum off the leaves or pine needles. Wind doesn’t always blow them off. Also any grit from the roofing material collects on top and then blows onto my patio/deck/walkway. Super annoying to sweep away.

If you do once a year, when do you do it? Late Nov/early Dec?

Yes, before any potential freezing snow/ice/water that may clog them and wreak havoc with ice dams on your roof.

Read the online reviews, none of the gutter systems work as intended. Just pay someone to clean them once or twice a year

What sort of trees do you have? Some trees (looking at you, tulip poplars and mimosas!) drop tons of tiny debris that guards don't handle well. Other trees drop larger leaves and other stuff that guards are quite adept at handling.

Have gutter guards and get 1x annual cleaning. Best of both worlds. the problem with just getting them cleaned was inevitably a clump of leaves would fall in and block something up 2 weeks after we had them cleaned

We got gutter guards 10 years ago and our gutters have never clogged. They came with a guarantee for gutter cleaning if needed. We use to clean 2x a year and still had times when they clogged (lots of trees). Can't recall which brand it was.

Definitely the cleaning. Gutter guards won’t stop the debris and they will charge you more to remove them to clean.
We use Ned Stevens (formerly it was Guttermaid) and it’s about $150 for our very large house.

I’ve always heard that gutter guards are not a good idea because they don’t really work and make it harder to clean. I just get ours cleaned. No problems.

Have been getting quotes for $1400-2000 for gutter guards for our home but have been told that even the gutter guards can't stop little pine needles.

The alternative is to opt for twice a year gutter cleaning.

For the latter, can someone recommend in MoCo? And what would it cost me for a 4500sf house?
