I'm old school I like my laptop.

DD uses it daily for drawing with an Apple Pencil and every once in a while to watch movies or shows on road trips.

If you’re using an iPad for reading, get a kindle instead—much better for your eyes.

I watch movies or tv shows on mine in bed and use it to cook recipes off of. I don't really take it out of the house.

I've wondered the same thing, op. I generally travel with my laptop as a backup in case I need to do something for work that is not possible on the phone.

Easier to read books and watch shows

Much easier to register for certain web sites such as SSAT,
Sign up genius or whatever

It is good to have both so if you are in a
Meeting on zoom/ Google meet on one device you can check notes for the meeting on the other

Ok? OP asked why people like them and for many people the larger screen is the driving force, whether they’re over or under 50. It’s great that you like the compact size of your phone. Many of us prefer the larger size of our iPads.

The screen size makes the difference for things like watching movies, reading ebooks, doing email, etc. one huge difference is that I have a keyboard/ cover. So if I need to do anything requiring typing, it’s a LOT easier. When I travel, I don’t need to take a laptop.

The screen size. Makes a huge difference (assuming you read, watch movies, certain games, photography, editing documents, etc).

I never thought I'd use a tablet, but I use my iPad regularly for reading articles (bigger than phone) and for doing workouts using online videos. I've also watched streaming services when I wanted to watch while being able to move around the house.

Allowing me to see things at a decent size. Good luck doing the New York Times Sunday crossword on a phone. Allowing me to look at things side by side. Allowing me to easily draw and annotate. Reading things with color or when I don’t have my Kindle with me. Reading comic books (excuse me, ‘graphic novels’).

If you don’t want to do those things, then it might not be worth it, but if you do, it’s a more pleasant experience.
