NP. I looked at all of my free options (DCPS and charter - yes, both are public) when my child was 3. My goal was to choose which ever was the best for my child - which happened to be a charter.

The framing is not correct because Charter schools are public schools, they are not two different things as OP suggest.

+2. Please do more reading about his subject before interviewing people and writing about it.

Spoiler alert: the biggest reason people choose a public school that is not their default IB DCPS school is for the middle/high school option down the road. It truly boils down to that for 99.9% of the folks I ever speak with about school choice. As for choosing private school, I am guessing the overwhelming majority will say it’s because their kid didn’t luck out in the lottery for a good public middle/high school option or their kid has specific learning or extra curricular needs that aren’t met in the public option. Or they have the means, so why not?!

Hi, before you do further outreach you might want to reword your appeal. All charter schools in DC are public schools. I think what you mean is "...why parents in DC choose to send their children to public charter schools, rather than DCPS, or private."
