K8 parent. Your school will help you a lot. Usually k8 get a reasonable amount of spots at various schools. Gonzaga could be a nice fit. I believe he could get in Landon but Landon has created over woke problems for themselves and too many unhappy kids. I agree on Maret being possible and love that school. STA is really hard and usually some family has that spot locked up unless your son is an athlete. Bullis is great and so is Flint Hill. Anyway talk to your counselor and ask and also consider hiring a private school counselor if you need extra help. They are also great about helping you create a nice portfolio where at least someone from these schools will really look at your application. I know you have been told this by your school but really wherever your son gets in will be fine.

Your HOS will tell you if you ask. I sent 4 kids to a k-8 and our HOS predicted acceptances with 90% accuracy for all 4 kids. Ask the HOS after they have their meeting with the admissions teams at the various schools. They discuss each applicant in depth. I think after that meeting the HOS knows who is getting in where. Also, let the HOS know BEFORE these meetings start what your first choice school is so they can convey that during the meeting.

Just keep in mind HS is harder than middle so those smattering of Bs will probably increase depending on what school they attend. Getting in is just the beginning--want to make sure they end up somewhere they can succeed academically.

The school will also have an impression of what your kid is like and can draw on years of experience with previous kids getting accepted into and then going to these schools.

That might be a set of questions you could ask your current school. What schools do you think he can get in? What schools do you see him fitting in to. What schools do you recommend we look at most strongly for him based on your experience?

They might be reticent to be completely frank because they have experience with previous parents who have had their hearts set on particular schools or have unrealistic views of their children’s desirability. But if you can get across to them that you have an open mind and are just looking for information, you may very well get some sage (and free) advice.

It depends a lot on how he ranks against other kids in his class and how many slots your school typically gets from different schools. He might be a great fit for Landon but if three of his classmates are siblings, it might not be where he is steered.

What would his chances at Gonzaga be? He is not coming from a catholic school.

Talk to your school. The K-8 your kid attended will also play heavily into which high schools are options. Schools tend to have relationships with each other and this strongly influences how many kids they’ll accept from your current school.

Your K-8 should tell you this. (Or, are you applying out before 8th?). It depends also on how many other students from your school who are applying as well.

The outplacement person at your K-8 will be best equip to answer this question.

Where does an A/B student (boy) coming from a private K-8 generally get in for high school? Trying to get a sense of what would be reasonable admits for him. I would say he has mostly As but a smattering of Bs. Strong but not exceptional extracurriculars. Great personality. He is easy going and gets along well with just about everyone.
