PO here. I agree that Sorrells are the best for severe weather conditions and very cold days, but they can lead to very hot sweaty feet if worn inside.

DC should ask around of other students who are familiar with the weather conditions there and how well the sidewalks are shoveled. It will make a big difference in what boots are best.

Bogs makes some attractive but well insulated winter snow boots. Some are rated to minus 58.

No. This is a terrible suggestion; duck boots are too slippery for ice and snow. Duck boots are for wet fall conditions, not winter.

+1. I grew up in Syracuse and wore these. I still buy them because they keep my feet warm in the coldest weather.

Most boots including Docs and Blundstones work most of the time. Sorels for big snow and slush. Bean boots if they’re preppy.

This, plus several pairs of good wool socks. We like the REI house brand wool socks - very sturdy, made in usa, reasonable price.
