OP, it sounds like group care is not the best fit- have you considered a nanny?

Ours definitely wipe the kids noses. Bless them!

Three year olds can wipe their snot.

Pre k is not a requirement for kindergarten

OP here. I used to work with kids with special needs. Wiping bottoms and noses is part of the job, just like scrubbing toilets and cleaning bathrooms when I worked in a coffee shop. Don’t imply I’m being some sort of prime donna, because I’m not.

I mean I don't really disagree with you - this brought back memories of when my daughter would get chapped skin on her face from snot freezing on her face during winter. I was frustrated.

You do sound like a prima donna though - especially how you felt the need to say you "gently" suggested a kid wipe their nose.

I am wiping snot all day long. I can’t keep up with some kids because their noses just don’t stop running. Gross, green snot and some parents just won’t take them to the doctor to be evaluated. My hands are raw, cracked and bleeding from the constant wiping and hand washing. Believe me, we wipe.

When I taught in daycare the licensing requirement was that we wash our hands before and after each time we helped a child wipe their nose.

Which sort of makes sense from a germ perspective, but it made it way more time consuming. Plus my hands were cracked and bleeding from all the hand washing.

Keep your sick kid at home. They don't have time to wipe all day.

We do it all day long. Perhaps you arrived 5 minutes after the last wipe.

I pick up early, after nap and snack, and the children’s faces are always a mess. My child routinely comes home with food all over their face.

We are in a new preschool and I have noticed the preschool teachers in my child’s class (older 2s/young 3s) do not wipe the children’s faces or noses, or help them to do this themselves. At pick up, most of the children have drippy, runny noses, dried on boogers, and or dried food smeared all over their faces. I have even watched one of my child’s classmates licking and ingesting green snot from a badly running nose which he wiped once I handed him a tissue and suggested gently that he needed a wipe.

This (wiping noses and faces) was something at our older child’s preschool and daycare that the teachers helped the kids with, or taught them to do themselves with some gentle reminders and direct instruction. What do the teachers at your child’s preschool do about runny noses and food on the children’s faces?
