Now please don't confuse intelligence with benevolence. Cows can also, occasionally, be aggressive. And since they weigh more than a 1000lbs, with horns they know how to use, you still want to be vigilant while in a field with cows.

YES! I’ve seen that on Dr Pol. One poor male calf was raped by a bull. It was really sad

This is not accurate.

Farmer here. Cows and horses are extremely intelligent. Goats as well.

Sheep and chickens are stupid. I mean, really, really stupid.

+1
Former farmer here.
Cows, horses, goats, and pigs are intelligent. I don't know about sheep, but chickens and turkeys are nearly as dumb as rocks.

Have you seen that meme video where the farmer frees a sheep from being stuck in a ditch and it takes a couple of steps and falls back into the ditch? That is all sheep. I will never raise sheep again, it is a miracle any of them are still alive.

I'm amazed how birds can build nests (better than architects), migration routes (butterflies, elephants, birds), , abd the list goes on . God's creatures are quite spectacular

Haven't spend a lot of time around them and then recently I ended up in a mountain village full of cows and the cows pretty much manage their own lives. They come and go on their own from their homes to wherever they want to graze. They know where they and the other cows all live, they can tell time and when they should head home, they actively communicate with each other about their plans for the day, they express frustation if another cow isn't doing what they are supposed to do, they have leaders and followers...it is a whole society. We just never see cows here living this kind of independent life!

There is a reason why they are held to be sacred in India.

There is a farm rescue in Poolesville (Poplar Springs) and they discuss the high intelligence of cows in their tours when introducing people to their rescue cow.

If we are going to eat cows we should at least provide them with a decent life eating grass and roaming outside rather than cooped up in cages and being force fed corn plus antibiotics .

The capitalization of the the topic title suggested this was a book or a movie… I was expecting a documentary!

Most farm animals are like this. Chickens are the same. They come and go and know where they live.

I love cows. My dream has always been to spend a summer on a mountain hut in the Alps and take care of the cows and make cheese.
