The October thread is locked, and I can't go back there to report that I read Mad Honey in Oct. for book club. I still don't like Jodi Piccoult and this book didn't change that for me. At least it was a fast read.

I'm currently reading Verity by Colleen Hoover - it's been in my wish list for a long time and I'm just getting to it. I'm enjoying it so far, and about half way through, so I feel like something terrible is just around the corner!

Nothing yet but I'm considering Frankenstein (didn't get to it in time for Halloween reading) and My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry.

The end of the year is approaching and I haven't yet reached two of my 2023 reading goals: to read a classic and to read a book club book that I missed at the time - so I am trying to get these two in.

I just finished Educated, by Tara Westover. (I know I'm late to the party). It was a pretty easy read, despite the tough story. I'd give it a 4/5. I enjoyed reading it but it wasn't the best autobiography (I think I generally prefer ones of people I "know" from a show or a movie or something, or funny ones). I'll never read it again, but I'd recommend it as an interesting look at a very different life from what I lead. I'm debating reading her mom's book, Educating.

I'm about halfway through The Colorado Kid, by Stephen King (more of a short story, not super short but much, much shorter than his normal - I've only read it two nights so far). I love Stephen King and this is so far another one of his good character development, interesting plot books. I don't actually like horror or the supernatural, but he always gets me hooked by bringing me into the world he has created so quickly with his vivid writing.

Next up when I'm done with that will be None of This Is True.

Tessa Hadley's Free Love - a novel set in England in the late 60s / early 70s. Her writing is amazingly good.

Just got Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig, the sequel to One Dark Window. Can't wait to dive in!

Jade War by Fonda Lee. Ooh this series is good.

Reading Tania James's Loot, so far so good. Not a long book but feels bigger, in a good way. And well-written.

1/3 of the way through Deepti Kapoor's "Age of Vice." So far, it's terrific - a gripping and fast-paced tale of murder and mayhem among the hyper-rich and poor in India. Kapoor uses present-tense narration, which IMO is hard to do well; Hilary Mantel is another example of an author who succeeds at it. But it really works here. You get the sense that you're in the middle of all the action.

Next up I have "I Have Some Questions For You" by Rebecca Makkai. I've seen posts on here about it before.
