If you have no concern with keeping kids up until 11pm on a school night, your kids will be fine if they skip bath and teeth brushing for 1 night. Put them in bed in their undies.

Halloween is not the night to skip brushing teeth.
Costume off, PJ's on, bathroom, brush teeth, into bed within 10 minutes.

Also sorry to be a bummer, but you are a parent now. If your kids are old enough to ToT, they are old enough to want to spend time with their friends, not yours. There is no reason to drive an hour and to visit with friends on a weeknight. I get it because my husbands best friend has an EPIC Halloween party 90 mi away we’d gone for 15 years after college and even took our kids and as preschoolers. But our kids are school age now and we prioritize their social lives for ToT and get a babysitter and visit our friends on weekends.

What? No! Tell kids no bath or stories tonight. Come home, costume off, brush teeth and straight to bed!

They still have to take the costume off. It's not like they are falling into bed right when you get home anyway. Change clothes, brush teeth, bed.

That's ridiculous. It takes 60 seconds to change into PJs. What will take longer and can't be done beforehand is flossing and brushing teeth.

They're walking through leafy streets and eating candy. They WILL get dirty. No PJs for that.

For my kids it isn’t about how little time it takes to change when they are in a good mood, it about how long it takes when they are up too late and overtired.

We keep our normal bedtime. But my kids go to bed at 9 or 9:30 so not a big deal.

By 8:30 no one wants you ringing their doorbell. Time to head home.

how long does it take to put on pajamas? Will they fall asleep in the car? That wouldn't be a big idea.

I can't imagine that the five minutes it takes to change into pajamas matters at all, beyond possibly making the costume look bad.

Anyone getting their kids ready for bed early before going out trick or treating? We are going to a family friend’s house and probably won’t be back home until well after normal bedtime. I think they should just wear pajamas under costumes.
