We went around to the neighbors we were friendly with, so maybe 5 houses. Then stopped to chat with other people. I don't think we took any candy, it was more just to say hi and show off the baby in her cute costume!

The next year she could walk, so we did the same thing and it took twice as long (toddlers walking) but she got to eat a few pieces of candy.

No. Not socially acceptable. I never understand people trick or treating just with a baby. I put them in the same bucket as people with "dog babies".

We took our then-6 month old to older neighbors’ homes on a pre-arranged plan and much earlier than the kids were out. It was more door-to-door visits and only because they all wanted to see her costume. I vaguely remember bringing fancy chocolate to them!

Just take the baby to a few houses to show them off. I give candy to any age kid who shows up.

My god. People here are so crabby. If a parent wants to trick or treat with their baby, let them have that. It’s harmless (and I think adorable).

We did but we also had older kids we were trick or treating with too. Older siblings LOVED seeing the baby hold a little bag and get candy. I mean they only got like 5 pieces... My neighbors loved seeing the babies too.

I give candy happily to everyone who comes to my door.

Yes! Ignore the haters - people love seeing the baby and feel free to grab candy while you’re there.

Parade them around, wait for trick or treating until they can walk and say trick or treat

If you want to walk around and show off your baby's costume, great! Taking candy for the parents seems gauche. I bought enough candy for the kids in the neighborhood, not their parents, too. Just wait a couple years and you'll be getting all the cast-offs (and if you wait even longer you'll get anything sticky or chewy, thank you braces!)

Is it socially acceptable to take an 8 month old trick or treating knowing damn well, you, (the parents) are going to be eating the candy?
