It is standard practice for many retailers to only charge when something is shipped. If you place a large order it is very likely that the items are not all in the same warehouse.

In all cases, they do not charge your card until the item ships. That's not an abnormal practice; most of the places I use online take the order but do not charge me until the item leaves the shop.

I only buy from Amazon, not third parties (I check). I know they don't charge my card until it ships, but....all these charges look really bad.

I find this really annoying too, OP, because I get an email every time my credit card is charged, so for one Amazon order it’ll be 5 separate emails.

My husband thinks I'm spending all day ordering things, when in fact I put in one huge order of stuff we've talked about, only for 5+ individual charges to show up because things ship separately. It makes it look like I'm hiding shopping, and I hate it.
